Reflective 2018 Scholarship Recipients
Mr. Malik Balogun
I would like to thank the members of the Chi Gamma Gamma chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for rewarding me with the 2ndCentury Invictus Foundation Scholarship. Thanks to the scholarship, I have been able to take part in activities on my campus and excel in the classroom. I am currently a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Clemson Calhoun Honors College, and thanks to the support and modeling by the organization, I was inspired to join the Brother 2 Brother Mentorship program at my school.
Mr. Emmanuel Eziakor – Morehouse College
My first year at Morehouse College was both challenging and rewarding. I had to work extremely hard to achieve the grades that I did and also got the chance to make many new friends who supported me throughout the year. I want to thank everyone involved in the 2ndCentury Invictus fund for enabling me to attend college and have enough money to afford the expensive books and other supplies that are needed. This allowed me to focus on my grades and extracurriculars without constantly worrying about debt. Again, thank you so much for this amazing opportunity.
Mr. Chaz Warren – North Carolina A&T State University
I would like to once again express my sincere gratitude to your organization. The 2nd Century Invictus Fund, Inc. enabled me the opportunity to attend my first-choice university of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I believe the first year of college can be a time when you truly begin to discover yourself. This is where you overcome obstacles that only get more difficult, persevere, and find your purpose. As I reflect upon my first year at North Carolina A&T State University, I can say that it has been nothing less than a rewarding learning experience. I have had to learn to adjust being away from home to learning that I might have to study a lot more than I did in high school. Upon entering North Carolina A&T; I was admitted to an honors program for Freshman engineering students, performed hours of community service, became a mentor for kids at elementary and middle schools in the Greensboro area, joined several on campus organizations, excelled academically, met new friends and received an internship offer from a major Commercial Contracting Firm in Washington, D.C, that will allow me to gain hand-on experience within my academic major of Architectural Engineering. (I am so excited to begin this summer). Thank You
Mr. Jacob Robinson – Hampton University
As I reflect on my blessings in 2018, I consider you to be among the highest. Your award provided me the opportunity to experience my first semester of college to the fullest, as my financial obligations were met, and I was able to obtain the materials necessary to make it a successful semester. For that, I extend my gratitude. I am pleased to announce that I have excelled in my studies which has placed me on the Dean’s List, in addition to being offered induction into the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute; making me an official Fellow of the program. Furthermore, it has placed me in the running for a seat in the Freddye T. Davy Honors College offered at Hampton. Again, I am truly grateful for your financial assistance as you have helped me to have a fantastic first semester. As requested, and promised, I will continue to keep you updated throughout my college matriculation at Hampton University!
